Head Back to the Movies (Virtually) This Summer

With movie theaters, film screenings and other public cinematic events largely sidelined over the last year, most of our filmgoing experiences have been happening right from the couch of our OMNIA at Town Center apartment couches. As restrictions ease and more cultural institutions reopen their doors, the local arts scene is heating up.

For film buffs, one local event is returning this month that has been drawing cult crowds for years. The famed Colonial Theatre in nearby Phoenixville, 15 minutes from your OMNIA at Town Center apartment, is bringing back the beloved Blobfest weekend, a three-day cinematic celebration being held virtually this year from July 9-11. If you’re not familiar, the event is one of Phoenixville’s most celebrated annual festivals, typically bringing thousands to the small town, who this year will join together online—so you can be a part of the celebration all without leaving the air conditioning of your OMNIA at Town Center apartment!

The event commemorates the 1958 classic film The Blob. Typically, the in-person festival features games, contests, reenactments and more, and all of that is being moved to a virtual setting this summer. The fun kicks off Friday night with a virtual cocktail horror followed by a variety show that includes seven different horror-themed contests: Submit your best reenactment of the “running out of the theater scene” from the movie, send in photos of your most creative tin foil hat creation and even dress up your pet for a horror-themed costume contest. After the prizes are awarded, get the popcorn out for a screening of The Blob.

Throughout the weekend, tune in for kids’ “monster matinee” shows, screenings of other horror faves and live events. Grab tickets for one day or all three if you want to kick back, turn up the A/C and veg out with all of your favorite horror flicks for the weekend.
